Bangladesh College-University Teachers’ Association formed a human chain on the Dhaka University campus Wednesday protesting at the humiliation of Shyamal Kanti Bhadra, headmaster of a Narayanganj high schoool, by local member of parliament AKM Salim Osman, says news agency UNB.
Speaking at the human chain in front of Aparajeo Bangla, leaders of Bangladesh College-University Teachers’ Association demanded proper legal steps against the MP.
“By humiliating Shyamal Kanti, Nasim Osman humiliated the entire teachers community of the country. So we should not be silent and government should give him proper punishment,” said the association’s president Nur Mohammod Talukdar.
Prof Mahfuza Khanam, president of World Teachers Federation also addressed the human chain.
On 13 May, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
At one stage, local MP AKM Salim Osman forced him to do sit-ups holding his ears.
A five-member committee, headed by upazila secondary education officer Nurul Amin, was formed on Tuesday to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, amid widespread criticisms over the arbitrary punishment of headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhadra, the managing committee of Piyar Sattar Latif High School suspended him from his post on Tuesday.
