Strong earthquake strikes Russia, no casualty reported

kamchatka-peninsulaA magnitude 7 earthquake strike eastern Russia on Saturday, according to US Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at 0325 GMT at Kamchatka Peninsula, some 95 kilometres northeast of the Russian town of Yelizovo, a preliminary report by the USGS said.

No report of causality was however reported in the first three hours.

The National and Pacific Tsunami Warning Centers said there was no risk it had caused a tsunami.

The earthquake struck in an area close to the “Ring of Fire”, an arc of fault lines that circle the Pacific Ocean which is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
