Divisional Election Commissioner Abdul Baten told the Dhaka Tribune that Manjur picked up nomination paper from district election office around 3:30pm on Friday.
In a press briefing after collecting nomination form, Manjur Alam said he would contest the poll under the banner of BNP-backed Chattagram Unnayan Andolon, an organisation of pro-BNP professionals.
When asked about BNP’s central leadership support, party Vice President Abdullah Al Noman said: “Central BNP has endorsed Manjur’s nomination for the mayoral race.”
Earlier, Manjur Alam handed over his resignation letter to panel mayor Mohammad Hossain during a meeting at the City Corporation Building in the afternoon.
Mohammad Hossain has taken the charge as acting mayor of the city.
The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayoral polls scheduled for April 28.
According to Election Commission rules, the deadline to submit nomination forms is March 29. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 1 and 2.
The deadline to withdraw nominations is April 9.
