The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has released photographs and identities of six suspected militants of banned Ansarullah Bangla Team who are allegedly involved in the spate of targeted killings recently, reports news agency UNB.
Media and Public Relations Division of DMP released the information of the six ‘militants’ along with their photos on its website Thursday evening, with the aim of drawing support from the public in catching them.
The militants carry rewards of Tk 2-5 lakh for information leading to their arrest.
The Detective Branch of DMP has been investigating the cases of blogger, writer and publisher killings over the last three years.
The DB unearthed militant dens being used as bases for the killing missions in Badda and Mohammadpur of capital Dhaka on 19 February this year, said deputy commissioner (Media) of DMP Maruf Hossain Sarder.
The detectives also arrested two members of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from the Badda den. One DB inspector was injured in militant attack during the drive. Later, the DB also discovered two more militant dens at Ashkona and Dakkhinkhan in the capital.
From the information gathered during these drives, or revealed by arrested militants, the DB got names and pictures of the six militants: Shariful alias Sharif alias Saleh alias Hadi, a top organiser of ABT hailing from Khulna; Selim alias Iqbal alias Ilias alias Mamun alias Hadi-2 from North Bengal; Sifat alias Samir alias Imran, one of the commanders of the military wing of ABT; Abdus Samad alias Sujan alias Raju alias Salman alias Saad from Comilla; Shihab alias Sumon alias Syful from Chittagong; and Sajjad alias Sajib alias Siam alias Shams from a district adjacent to Dhaka.
The DMP also announced bounties of Tk 5 lakh for information leading to arrest of Shariful and Selim, and Tk 2 lakh for the other four.
